I read some interesting stat in the newspaper today. Since the NHL lockout, 3/4 of the people who watched hockey said that they didn't care about other sports and that nothing can replace hockey. So for the rest of the people (1/4 of the population) who took interest in other sports: for the prairie provinces, 39% said they would watch curling in place of hockey. In BC, 24% said that they would watch curling, 22% said they would watch golf while 38% said they would watch other levels of hockey. In Ontario and Atlantic Canada, basketball was the biggest sport people turned to due to the lockout with 33% and 32% respectively. Not surprisingly because the Raptors are located in Ontario. In Quebec, most Anglophones preferred curling, 26% preferred other hockey and 23% preferred basketball. Francophones preferred football with a 27% audience. 51% of the people that do not speak English or French preferred soccer and 32% preferred basketball.
